FOR RETIREMENT COMMUNITIES

Movers for Retirement Communities and Residences

For residence managers, move-in coordinators and marketing teams: a mover your incoming residents' families can be given without a second thought.

If you run a retirement community, manage move-ins or sell the suites, the mover a family chooses is your problem whether you chose them or not. This page is for you rather than for the resident.

A poor move-in lands on your team. The elevator was not booked, the truck is at the wrong door, the corridor is unprotected, the window has closed with half the suite still in the hallway, and a distressed family is at your front desk on their first day.

It is not really a moving problem. It is a coordination problem, and it happens when a family hires a general mover who has never done a retirement move-in and did not know to ask.

We do these most weeks, and the requirements go into the plan before the date is confirmed.

How referrals work

One Call, and Your Client Is in Good Hands

Send us the client or introduce us by phone or email. We talk with them directly, plan the move around their timeline and keep you updated as much as you'd like.

What Your Team Stops Having to Chase

  • Elevator bookings confirmed rather than assumed
  • The right loading entrance used, at the agreed time
  • Corridor, elevator and floor protection in place
  • Paperwork you require supplied before the day
  • Move-in windows kept, because the crew was sized to them
  • Packing waste and cartons leaving with the truck
  • A family that arrives settled rather than in crisis

How We Actually Run a Move-In

The elevator and the window come first. We ask the family or your team for the booked window and its real length, not its nominal one, then size the crew to that window rather than to the load — a two-hour booking with a three-hour load is a decision to be made a week out, not at hour two. We confirm which entrance the truck uses, where it can legally stand for the duration, and the posted clearance if the approach is an underground bay, because that single number decides which vehicle we send.

Protection goes in before furniture does: the elevator car padded, floor protection along the route, door frames padded on tight corridor turns. Buildings carry the cost of a scuffed corridor long after the move, and a claim from a community is nobody's good day.

The furniture is planned against the suite weeks earlier, from the floor plan and the room dimensions. In a small suite the doorways, the corridor turn and the inward-opening door are the constraint rather than the floor area, so the useful conversation is which pieces come and which do not — held in the old house, at the family's kitchen table, rather than in your lobby with a wall unit that will not turn the corner.

On the day the suite is set up rather than delivered to: bed assembled and made, the chair where the light and the television are, kitchen things within reach, clothes in the closet, cartons and wrap leaving with the truck. The measure is whether the first evening in the suite is liveable.

Resident sensitivity is not a line on a checklist here. The person moving in is frequently leaving a home of forty years, often not entirely by choice, sometimes days after a hospital stay. Our crews work at the resident's pace, explain what is happening rather than talking over them, ask before moving a thing that matters, and do not hurry somebody through a doorway to make a window. Where an adult child is coordinating from another city, they get one contact and a call after the move rather than silence.

And the upstream work is ours too, at the family's home rather than yours: sorting and downsizing decades of belongings at a workable pace, packing in whole or in part, donation drop-offs, and clearing what is not coming. That is the part that turns a desperate fortnight into a manageable one, and a resident who arrives settled is easier for your team for months afterwards.

What We Do for Your Incoming Resident, Plainly

So your team and your families know exactly what can be handed over, this is the whole list:

  • Plan the move backwards from your move-in date and window
  • Measure the suite and work out with the family what genuinely fits
  • Sort and downsize at the older person's pace, in their own home
  • Pack — all of it, or only the difficult rooms
  • Confirm your building's requirements and paperwork before the date is set
  • Do the move inside the window, with protection down throughout
  • Assemble the furniture, unpack, and set the suite up to be liveable
  • Take away cartons, wrap and packing waste
  • Deliver donations and remove what is not coming to the suite
  • Clear the family home afterwards, to a closing date if there is one
  • Keep one point of contact for the family and for your team

A Single Point of Contact

Where a community wants it, we will be one named contact for your team: someone who knows your building's requirements, who your staff can call directly, and who does not have to be re-briefed on every move.

We are also happy to walk your building with your team once, so the loading route, the elevator arrangements and the protection expectations are agreed rather than negotiated per move.

Referring Families Without Recommending Blindly

Most communities are careful about naming a supplier, and rightly so. What we would ask is simply that when a family asks who does this well, we are on the short list — and that you judge us on the first move rather than on this page.

We make no claim to being anybody's preferred or approved supplier, and we will not use your community's name in our marketing.

What We Bring to a Move-In

  • A crew that has done retirement move-ins many times before
  • Requirements confirmed with your team before the date is set
  • Corridor, elevator and floor protection
  • Furniture measured against the suite in advance
  • Assembly, placement, unpacking and put-away
  • Packing waste removed rather than left in the suite
  • Downsizing and disposal handled at the family's home, not yours

Questions Families Ask Us

How does a referral arrangement work?

Simply. Your staff give a family our details, or call us on their behalf if that is easier. We confirm your building's requirements with your team, plan the move around them, and keep you informed of the date and window. There is no fee arrangement and no obligation on either side.

Will you walk our building with us?

Yes, and we would prefer to. One walkthrough with your team settles the loading route, the elevator arrangements, the protection expectations and the paperwork for every move afterwards.

Can you handle the downsizing at the family's home?

Yes, and it is usually the part that matters most to your incoming residents. Sorting, measuring against the suite, packing, donation drop-offs and removal of what is not coming — all done at their home rather than becoming your problem at the door.

Will you use our community's name in your advertising?

No. We name no partners in our marketing and make no claim to being anybody's preferred or approved supplier. If you ever want that changed, it would be your decision to make in writing.
