Moving Coverage & Carrier Liability
Basic Coverage Is Included
Every Stallion move includes basic coverage at $0.60 per pound / $1.32 per kilogram per article, subject to the terms of your moving agreement, at no additional charge.
Example: a 100 lb article would have up to $60 of basic coverage under this level.
In technical terms, this is basic carrier liability / valuation under the terms of your moving agreement. Because it is calculated on weight, a light but valuable item is covered for very little.
Basic coverage does not pay what an item would cost to replace. If an item matters to you more than its weight suggests, read the next section before your move.
Before You Buy More Coverage, Check What You Already Have
Many homeowner and tenant insurance policies may provide some protection for your belongings while you move. Coverage varies from policy to policy, so confirm it with your insurer or broker before moving day.
Questions worth asking your insurer or broker:
- Are my belongings covered while in transit?
- Is a move by a professional mover covered?
- What deductible applies?
- What exclusions apply?
- Are high-value items subject to separate limits?
- Is temporary storage covered?
- Is documentation required before the move?
Why Stallion No Longer Sells Additional Protection
We used to sell additional protection with our moves. We no longer do. If you want more than basic coverage, ask your own home or tenant insurer or broker what, if anything, they offer for a move — policies differ, and not every policy covers belongings in transit.
If You Want More Protection
If basic coverage is not enough for your move, your options are:
- Your existing home or tenant insurer
- Your insurance broker
- An approved independent provider, once Stallion has selected one
Claims and High-Value Items
- Tell us about any high-value, heirloom or specialty item before the move, when you ask for your quote.
- Claims are made in writing to claims@stallionmovers.com after the invoice has been paid in full.
- Your moving agreement sets out the terms that apply to your move.
