STORAGE
Storage Pods & Containers
Portable storage containers come from third-party companies, not from Stallion — Dundee Mobile Storage has historically been our preferred local provider. We do not own those companies and we do not own the containers. The container rental, the storage itself and transporting the container are quoted separately by that provider, directly to you. What Stallion does is load the container and unload it, and rent you the furniture pads and straps that protect your belongings while they sit in it.
Storage comes up in a great many moves: a closing date that does not line up with a possession date, a renovation, a downsize where the decisions are not finished, a summer between leases.
We want to be completely clear about who does what here, because vagueness about storage is how people end up with belongings somewhere they did not expect, and with two invoices they were not expecting either.

Move Day
A careful, methodical crew protects your home and belongings, with the day planned so nobody is rushing off to the next job.
What We Can Do
- Load a portable container or pod at your address
- Unload one at the other end, and place the contents where you want them
- Rent you furniture pads and straps to use for the period the container is in storage
- Move belongings into a self-storage unit you have rented
- Bring them out of that unit later and complete the move
- Pack and protect everything properly for a period in storage
- Advise on what should not go into unheated storage at all
Who Charges You For What
A container move has two suppliers in it, and knowing which is which before you book is what stops a surprise later.
The container company quotes you for the container rental, for the storage, and for moving the container. Stallion quotes you for the labour of loading and unloading it, and for the pads and straps you rent from us. Where stretch wrap is required, one roll may be included; additional materials may be charged.
- Container rental — quoted by the container provider
- The storage itself — quoted by the container provider
- Transporting the container — quoted by the container provider
- Loading and unloading — Stallion
- Furniture pads and straps for the storage period — rented from Stallion
What a Closing-Date Storage Move Actually Looks Like
When the sale closes before the purchase, the belongings have to live somewhere in between, and the shape of that is worth understanding because it is what drives the cost — not the storage, but the number of times the container has to be moved.
Generally there are four container movements. The empty container is delivered to your old address. Once it is loaded, it is picked up and taken into storage. When the new home is ready, it is delivered there. And when it is empty again, it is picked up for the last time.
Each of those movements is charged by the container provider, and the two loading days are ours. Tell us the two dates as soon as you know them and we will sequence our side around whatever the container company can do.
Out-of-Town Moves That Take More Than a Day
Some out-of-town moves cannot be done end to end in a day. Where that applies, we plan the overnight arrangements with you and set them out in the quote, including exactly what they mean for your dates.
Questions to Ask Before You Rent
The answers change the cost of the loading day considerably, and they are easy to get wrong.
- Is the unit drive-up, or is it inside with a corridor and a lift?
- What are the door dimensions, and is there a height restriction?
- Is the unit heated, and is it climate-controlled?
- What are the access hours, and is there a gate code process?
- Can a moving truck park directly at the unit or the container drop point?
- For a pod: can the container legally and physically be placed at your address?
What Storage Does to Your Belongings
Unheated storage in Southern Ontario goes from well below freezing to hot and humid within a year, and some things do not survive that. Upholstery and mattresses can mildew, wood veneer can lift, candles and electronics can be damaged, and anything liquid can freeze and split.
We will tell you which of your items we would not put into unheated storage. That is advice, not a warranty — but it is worth having before the door closes rather than afterwards.
Packing for Storage Is Not Packing for a Move
A move needs things to survive a day; storage needs them to survive months. That means proper cartons rather than any box, mattress covers rather than blankets, furniture wrapped in breathable material rather than sealed plastic that traps moisture, and nothing stacked where its own weight will deform it.
If storage is part of the plan, tell us when we quote so we pack for the right job.
What a Storage Move Includes
- Packing and protection appropriate to a period in storage
- Loading a container, pod or unit deliberately rather than by volume
- Furniture pads and straps, rented from us for the storage period
- An inventory approach that lets you find things again
- Unloading and placement at the eventual destination
- Honest advice about what should not go into unheated storage
- Coordination with your storage provider's access hours

Questions Families Ask Us
Does the container come from Stallion?
No. Portable containers come from third-party companies — Dundee Mobile Storage has historically been our preferred local provider. We do not own them and we do not own the containers. You rent the container from the provider directly, and they quote you separately for the rental, the storage and moving the container. Stallion loads it, unloads it, and rents you the pads and straps that protect what is inside.
What does Stallion charge for on a container move?
The labour of loading and unloading, and the furniture pads and straps you rent from us for the period the container is in storage. Where stretch wrap is required one roll may be included; additional materials may be charged. Everything to do with the container itself is billed by the container provider, not by us.
Our closing dates do not line up. How does that work?
Generally as four container movements: the empty container delivered to the old address, the loaded container picked up and taken into storage, the container delivered to the new home, and the empty container picked up at the end. The provider charges for those movements and we do the two loading days. Send us both dates as early as you can and we will sequence around what the provider can do.
Can you load a pod at our house?
Where available, yes — availability depends on the container provider serving your area and on whether a container can physically and legally be placed at your address. Check both with the provider before you book the drop.
Is a drive-up unit really cheaper to load?
Usually considerably, yes. A drive-up unit means a short carry from the truck; an interior unit means a corridor, possibly a lift, and a long carry repeated every trip. It is worth asking the facility specifically rather than assuming.
What should not go into storage?
Anything perishable, any liquid that can freeze, and anything hazardous — which we would not transport anyway. In unheated storage we would also think hard about mattresses, upholstery, electronics, candles and anything with a veneer. We will flag what concerns us when we quote.
Storage Part of Your Move?
Tell us where the unit or container is and when, and we will handle the loading and the unloading.
