A few details is all we need to come back to you with something real.
A senior move is not a scaled-down household move. It is usually a large reduction in space, a fixed move-in date set by somebody else, an older person who may find the upheaval genuinely distressing, and an adult child trying to hold all of it together from a job and a family of their own.
That is the move Stallion is built for. Not as a sideline to commercial contracts, but as the main thing we do — which is why our crews already know what a retirement residence will ask for, what will and will not fit a suite, and how to keep a moving day calm.
Moving Mom or Dad? We have done this before.

Tell us about the move, whether it is your own or a parent’s. You do not have to know every detail before you start.

Move Day
A patient, methodical crew that works at a comfortable pace for the person moving, with the day planned so nobody is rushing.
Where Families Usually Need the Most Help
Almost nobody calls a mover first. They call once the decision is made, the suite is chosen and the date is in the calendar — and then discover the actual work is everything around the move rather than the move itself.
- Deciding what will genuinely fit the new suite, before anything is packed
- Sorting decades of belongings at a pace the person can cope with
- Meeting the residence's move-in requirements, windows and paperwork
- Packing carefully, and labelling so unpacking is not a second ordeal
- Getting donations and unwanted items away rather than into a hallway
- Setting the new suite up so the first night in it feels like living, not camping
The Services That Make Up a Senior Move
Every one of these can be booked on its own, and most families use several. You are not obliged to take a package — the point is that one call can handle a lot of moving pieces.
- Senior move planning — the sequence and the deadlines, worked backwards
- Downsizing support — sorting, measuring, deciding
- Packing and labelling, in whole or in part
- The move itself, with the residence's requirements built in
- Unpacking, put-away and furniture assembly at the new address
- Donation drop-offs and removal of what nobody wants
- In-home moves, where the change happens inside one address
How We Work
- Patience — the pace is set by the person moving, not the clock
- Organisation — a plan and a sequence agreed before the day
- Communication — one point of contact, and no surprises on the day
- Assessment — photos, a video walkthrough or a visit before we quote
- Family coordination — updates for the relatives who are helping, near or far
- Retirement-residence requirements — move-in windows, elevator bookings and loading rules built into the plan
In-Home Changes and Family Coordination
Not every change is a move to a new address. Sometimes a bedroom needs to come down to the main floor, or a room needs to be rearranged so it is safer and easier to use. We handle in-home moves with the same planning as a full move.
Where several family members are involved, we keep one agreed plan and one point of contact, so decisions are made once and everybody knows what is happening.
End-of-Life Room Clearing and Estate-Related Support
After a death, or when a care change happens quickly, a room in a residence or a whole home may need to be cleared on a timeline set by someone else. We do that work carefully and respectfully: sorting what goes to family, what is donated and what is disposed of, and moving the pieces that are staying with someone.
For estates, we provide the practical moving side — clearing, distributing to family members and removing what is left — working with whoever is responsible for the estate.
Why the Cheapest Quote Is Rarely the Cheapest Day
An hourly rate on its own tells you almost nothing about what a senior move will cost, because the hours are decided by planning rather than by speed. A crew that arrives without knowing about the elevator booking, the stairs, the dismantling or the donation load will take longer and charge for the difference.
We would rather spend twenty minutes on photographs and questions beforehand than discover the problem with a truck on the driveway. Don't choose your mover on hourly rate alone.
Working With Retirement Communities
Residences generally have move-in windows, elevator bookings, designated loading entrances, corridor protection rules and paperwork they need before the day. We work to those rather than arriving and negotiating, and where staff want a single point of contact for a family, we can be it.
If you work in a retirement community and want a mover your residents' families can rely on, our retirement communities page explains how that arrangement works.
What a Planned Senior Move Includes
- A review of photos or a video walkthrough of the current home
- A realistic view of what will fit the new suite
- Identification of difficult furniture and what it needs
- A check of the residence's move-in requirements
- A recommendation on crew size and truck requirements
- A view on what packing and downsizing help is actually needed
- A written quote you can read and question before you commit

What Families Tell Us
Brett and his team are always professional and caring, I feel as if they would treat each person they help move as their own Grandparent. They respect guidelines surrounding move times for our building, and make sure each piece they move is treated with care and concern.

I had Stallion Movers today to move my dad from his home to a retirement home and am so pleased with their professionalism, punctuality and friendliness. Brett and Mitch were so careful getting around the items that weren't being moved. They were very thorough and moved quickly. Also Wendy in their office was extremely helpful and patient with all my questions and emails. I highly recommend them for any service you need that they provide. They came highly recommended so I didn't even get other quotes and that was the right decision. Thank you!

Wow. Excellent service, clean, professional, timely etc. We needed to move my mother to a senior's residence and her stuff. The residence recommended 2 services and I elected Stallion - possibly (likely) the other may be as good but Stallion were exceptional. I would highly recommend them for any move not just a senior transfer...

Great company, prompt and professional. I have used Stallion Movers twice to move my parents into retirement residences. They are professional, and super easy to deal with and understand and respect the protocols with senior residences. I highly recommend them.

Questions Families Ask Us
How far ahead should we book a senior move?
As soon as you have a move-in date, and earlier if downsizing or packing is involved — that work takes weeks rather than days when it is done at a pace an older person can manage. If your date is tight, call anyway: we will tell you honestly what is still possible.
Can you help decide what fits in the new suite?
Yes, and it is the single most useful thing we do early. Get the suite's floor plan or dimensions from the residence and we will work through the furniture with you before anything is packed. Our article on what fits in a retirement suite covers the usual surprises.
What happens to everything that is not going?
We can deliver donations and remove general household items and furniture nobody wants, so it does not sit in a hallway waiting for someone to deal with it. There are limits — nothing bug-infested, leaking or hazardous — and the decisions about what goes are always the family's.
My parent is anxious about the whole thing. Does that change how you work?
It changes the pace and the communication more than the method. We work through what will happen in advance, keep the day predictable, and set the new place up so it is liveable the first evening rather than a room of boxes. Our article on managing moving anxiety is written for exactly this.
Do you only move seniors?
No — we do household, apartment, condo, furniture, in-home and small-office moves too. Senior moving is simply what we specialise in and where most of our experience is.
