STRATFORD, ONTARIO
Movers in Stratford — Senior & Small-Move Specialists
Moving Services in Stratford
Stratford is a city of a little over thirty thousand on the Avon River in Perth County, with a large stock of well-kept older brick housing, a compact downtown, established seniors and retirement housing, and newer subdivision on the edges.
Stratford has a notably high proportion of older residents relative to its size, and senior moving and downsizing make up most of what we do there.
Stallion Movers is a senior and small-move specialist. That means the moves we do best are the ones bigger companies treat as filler: a retirement-suite move-in, an apartment, a condo, a house of any size, a few rooms of furniture, or a move that happens inside one address. We plan a Stratford move before the truck is booked, so the day itself holds no surprises for anybody. We work across Perth County and the communities around it, New Hamburg and Waterloo Region included, so a move with one end here and the other nearby is a single day rather than two jobs.

Move Day
A careful, methodical crew protects your home and belongings, with the day planned so nobody is rushing off to the next job.
Senior & Retirement-Home Moves in Stratford
A move into retirement living is not an ordinary moving day, and treating it like one is how families end up exhausted. Stratford has an established set of retirement residences and seniors apartments, and suite move-ins are the majority of the work we do in the city.
We can take on far more than the lift. Planning the sequence, measuring what will actually fit the new suite, packing, moving, taking donations away, and unpacking and setting the suite up so the first evening in it feels liveable rather than like a storage unit. Where a residence has move-in windows, elevator bookings, insurance paperwork or a loading route it wants used, we work to those requirements rather than arriving and asking.
If you are the adult child organising this from a distance, you do not have to coordinate every piece of it yourself. One call can handle a lot of moving pieces.
Downsizing & Packing in Stratford
Moving from more space into less is the hard part of most Stratford senior moves, and it is rarely a one-afternoon job. Stratford's older brick homes have basements, attics, garages and often a long family tenure behind them, which is a lot of volume to reconcile with a retirement suite.
We help sort room by room at a pace that suits the person whose belongings they are, pack what is going, and handle donation drop-offs and disposal for what is not. Nothing bug-infested, leaking or hazardous — but the ordinary furniture and household goods nobody has room for, we can take away rather than leave in a hallway.

What We Actually Do in Stratford
Retirement and seniors-apartment move-ins, downsizing and packing, household moves of all sizes (larger or multi-load moves by assessment), apartment moves, estate and executor clearances, furniture moves and in-home moves.
Moves between Stratford and Waterloo Region run in both directions and are a normal scheduled day for us.
We are honest about the edges of what we do. If a move is genuinely too large for us, or the distance means we cannot serve it well, we say so rather than take the booking. Stratford is a regular run west from Waterloo Region on Highway 7/8; it is a scheduled out-of-town day rather than a local one, and travel is set out in the quote.
For a Stratford quote, tell us about the stairs, the elevator and its booking, where a truck can park, any long carry from the kerb, extra stops, appliances, and anything heavy, specialty or valuable. Photos or a short video of the rooms and the frontage let us size the crew and truck properly; larger and senior moves may need a virtual or in-home assessment first.
Access & Logistics That Actually Affect a Stratford Move
- A large share of Stratford's residential stock is pre-war brick: narrow doorways, steep staircases with a turn at the landing, low basement headroom and, in the older blocks, no driveway at all. Those openings determine what comes out assembled.
- Downtown streets around the market square are short, partly one-way and heavily parked, with buildings that have no rear access. Loading is a legal on-street space held for hours rather than a pull-in.
- Festival season brings substantial visitor traffic and parking pressure to the downtown and the streets around the theatres between spring and autumn. Moving in the core in that window is slower and worth scheduling around.
- Several residential streets fall towards the Avon River; grade is modest by Fergus standards but enough to matter for loaded dollies in ice.
- The elevator buildings and retirement residences require a booked elevator, a padded car and a specified loading entrance, generally within weekday business hours.
- The route from Waterloo Region is Highway 7/8 with no convenient alternative when it is disrupted, so we quote arrival as a window rather than a minute.
- Perth County properties outside the city are on gravel laneways that soften in the spring thaw, with side or rear loading over gravel or grass.

Stratford Moving Questions
Do you come to Stratford regularly, or is it a special trip?
Regularly — Stratford is a normal scheduled run for us in both directions on Highway 7/8. It is out-of-town rather than local work, so travel is charged the way our pricing page describes and confirmed in your written quote before you book. There is no vague "we will see on the day".
Our Stratford house has narrow doorways and steep stairs. What happens to the big furniture?
We assess it before quoting rather than on the morning. Send photos or a short video of the stairs, the landings and the doorways and we will tell you which pieces need dismantling, which need a different route, and — honestly — if anything will not come out the way it went in. That is a much better conversation to have in advance.
How does travel to Stratford affect the price?
Stratford is a regular run west from Waterloo Region on Highway 7/8; it is a scheduled out-of-town day rather than a local one, and travel is set out in the quote. The first 40 round-trip kilometres are included on local moves. Additional mileage/travel charges may apply outside the local area. The travel and billing section of our pricing page explains how that works, and your written quote confirms the actual figures for your move — before HST. We do not estimate distance loosely and then adjust it on the invoice.
